In PMP training and Certification, Project Time Management plays a keyrole in giving a time constraint to the project start and end.
Project Time Management :
It is the process where project manager will establish the policies, procedures and documentation to plan, manage, execute, and control the project schedule. This schedule model represents the plan for executing project's activities that includes duration, dependencies and planning information that are useful along with other schedule elements.
According to PMBOK.
“Project Time Management includes the processes required to accomplish timely completion of the project”
As in like other knowledge areas, Project time management in PMP Certification has seven set of process that helps in timely completion of the project.
- Plan Schedule Management
- Define Activities
- Sequence Activities
- Estimate Activity Resources
- Estimate Activity Durations
- Develop Schedule
- Control Schedule
Plan Schedule Management :
This process establishes the policies, procedures, and documentation to plan, develop, manage, execute and control the schedule.
This process provides guidance and direction to manage the project schedule through out the project.
Define Activities :
In this process, It helps to identify and document the specific actions to be performed to produce the project deliverables.
This process break down work packages in to activities that provide a basis to estimate, schedule, execute, monitor and control the project work.
Sequence Activities :
This process identifies and documents the relationships in the project activities. It defines " the logical sequence to work to obtain the greatest efficiency given all project constraints "
Estimate Activity Resources :
This process estimates the type and quantity of materials, human resources, equipment and supplies to perform each activity that eventually allows to calculate more accurate cost and duration estimates.
Estimate Activity Duration :
This process estimates the work periods required to complete individual activities with estimated resources and provides the amount of time each activity will consume to finish estimated activities which is also a major input to develop schedule process.
Develop Schedule :
This process analyses the activity sequences, durations, resource requirements, schedule constraints to create project schedule model. Once in when the scheduling tool receives schedule activities, durations, resources, resource availabilities and logical relatioships, this process generates schedule model with planned dates for completing the project.
Control Schedule :
This process monitors the status of the project activities and update project progress and manage changes to the schedule baseline to achieve the plan. This process provides means to recognize deviation from the plan and take corrective and preventive actions to minimise risk
