Project Scope Management - PMP Certification
Project scope management is primary knowledge area out of ten knowledge area in PMP Certification program. Project Management Institute gives more importance to this knowledge area.
Project scope management knowledge area defines exactly
" The task or the work that you need and need not to do in the project"
so the project scope management will help you to understand what the client or the customer is looking for as deliverable. To be more specific, In order to get a output, you need to do some work to achieve the final output. Here some work is said to be the "project scope ", where as output is meant as "product scope"
Project scope - Work that needs to be done to get the final outcome.
By layout of the chart created with combination of 5 process groups and 10 knowledge areas. Project scope management has major role only in two process groups. Planning process group and monitoring & Controlling the project process group are much involved. In the initial stage of project, Scope will be or might be limited, as work progress goes, Project scope management helps to maintain and balance the scope baselines.

Planning Process Group
Plan Scope Management:
It is where you create scope management plan with which one can define,validate and control the project scope. This process provides guidance and direction of managing scope across the project.
Collect Requirements :
It is where you collect requirements from all stakeholders who you have identified as an impact in the project. You need to identify the stakeholder to collect requirement where you to get through Project stakeholder management to get the process. You need to create Requirement Traceability matrix using different ways to collect requirement from stake holders like brainstorming and organising workshops and others.
Define Scope :
It is where project manager will define the actual work that needs to be performed to meet project objectives. It is the responsibility of project manager to define the scope after accessing and understanding the complete goals, requirements and objectives gathered from stakeholder. Out put would be the project scope statement.
Create WBS :
WBS is an important term where a project manager would be interested in. Known as Work Breakdown Structure. Where as in project scope management, All the work that needs to be done to achieve goals is determined. Where in WBS , Project manager will have divide in to manageable task. Note that the lowest level of WBS is said to be WPL ( Work Package Level )
Monitoring and controlling process group
Verify Scope :
It is where the results provided by the scope and WBS are aligning with the quality. All the deliverables will be validated by the client or management to foresee the project is processing as planned after "Perform Quality Control".
Control Scope :
It is where a project manager has to be efficient in dealing with Time and Cost and calculate how does it impacts the project and its process. Project manager has to handle and balance the scope baselines as it is subjected to be changed by the stake holders or the customer during various expected and unexpected situations.
