ITIL Implementation becomes necessary when things connected to different stakeholders causes trouble. It is where ITIL comes in to rescue by improving the communication between IT People and staff members thereby reducing the cost and increase efficiency and productivity. 80 Per cent of the organisation who implemented ITIL in their organisation has enhanced levels of productivity.
Here are the common mistakes to avoid during ITIL Implementation :
1. over Implementation of ITIL:
Vision for ITIL Implementation is more important. ITIL Framework is one of the best management practises but it is not necessarily the best for each and every organisational structure & Process. Be clear on the ITIL Implementation vision. And ensure all the stakeholders are aware of implementation.
Sometimes ITIL Implementation may lead to unnecessary changes and time consuming affecting productivity. ITIL Experts suggest that ITIL should be implemented to the existing framework suiting to the requirements & leave out processes that are successful without any external interference.
2. Poor Management of Scope:
Accessing the existing process, identifying the key strengths, pain points & capabilities to decide the ITIL Implementation will cut down the risk of being over-ambitious. All the scope & its process should be investigated before being approved by the ITIL Implementation committee.
3. Biggest hindrance is change:
May it be younger workforce or the existing management, many of them are highly resistant to change. ITIL Implementation will bring drastic change in organisation that will make many of them feel burdened to go with new process. It becomes important for any organisation implementing ITIL to educate the workforce of why and how the staff and the company would get benefited from the ITIL Implementation. Major impact can be resolved by implementing ITIL with existing process.
All the stakeholders will go through the change during ITIL Implementation that will practically put the organisation in to cost at various aspects. It is better that cost, time & resources are calculated before it get implemented provided stakeholders should be aware of the implementation, scope & changes.
4. Avoid Top Level Management:
ITIL Implementation will be successful only when ample amount of resources & time be provided to it. Having higher level executive to implement ITIL will result in delay and timely change of process in the ITIL Implementation. An executive sponsor dedicated to ITIL Implementation will make it easier to call for decision and it will result in timely implementation of the process by reducing the executive level dependency.
Avoiding top level management will in fact result in setting the baseline such as readiness to change & maturity assessment thereby able to set specific targets to achieve best practises.
5. Forming everything new:
A new team is literally not required to implement ITIL. But be sure to find smart people who are willing to learn and adapt the ITIL Implementation process. Find people who can fit in to the roles of executive sponsor, project managers, stake holders, process owners, managers, advisors & process team managers.
Common process strategy won’t work all the projects. It is better to communicate ITIL best practises to every team so they can come up with their own process which can be integrated and fine-tuned according the process the project.
